Sammi wanted to fast for her very first time. She said she wanted to start fasting to get ready to be baptized. It was so sweet -- she was able to do it! I was so pleased with her efforts, we even discussed how it will be hard to not complain about being hungry, but if you focus your thoughts on the Savior, it will be great! She did very well. I cannot believe she has only a little over a year and she will be getting baptized! Amazing! My little Sammi is growing so fast -- someone press the "Pause" button!
Daniel is ready to be a missionary. We found one of daddies old tags and explained to him about missionary work, and how he can prepare now to go on a mission. I am so grateful for my parents (who are on a mission in Samoa) for their great example to their grandchildren. It makes it that much easier for me to explain it to my children, and the reinforcement is so great !
I thought this picture was funny. Sammi was holding up William, but was giving William a diaper wedgie -- poor thing!
Guess what happens next? Yup, they dropped him. Poor thing! Luckily, William is blessed with a sturdy head, he is often more of a rag-doll than a baby. :-) Oh the joys of being the runt of the liter!
I was in Sunday school today and they asked if there were any new people or visitors. There was a new lady in the ward, and so I turned and looked at her. I stared at her face, which was VERY familiar to me. Then she said her name: Chris Newman!! She was one of my Young Women leaders up in Alaska! I use to be friends with her daughter when we were younger. She was sitting way in the back of the chapel. So, after Sunday school, I quickly found her and we gave each other the biggest hug! It was SO good to see her! I had not seen her since I was 13 in YW in Alaska! Now I am almost 30 with 3 children and she is in my ward! Small world! We talked for a bit and exchanged numbers. At the end of church, I was standing next to one of my Beehives and Chris came up to me and said to my beehive, "You are a very lucky young woman to have her as your leader." I then explained to my Beehive that Chris was my beehive advisor and now was in our ward! What a strange moment for me. What a happy moment! There is nothing like seeing a familiar face, that you have not seen for a long time, and to feel such joy in the reunion! It makes me so anxious to see my parents again, after having them gone for a long time. What a joyous reunion that will be! I can't wait for that hug of joy! I am so excited to see family and great friends here in the very near future. It seems like it has been a long time! I sure love people, especially family, and friends that become family. :-)

How fun! I get to see my former YW president (from when I lived in Alaska!) sometimes because she lives in Las Vegas now.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you were Beehive advisor! Are you still on the activities committee, too?
Mari,
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you were able to see Sis. Newman again. How fun for you. I'm sure she was thrilled to see a familiar face since she was the new gal in the ward.
I love your Disneyland creation. Impressive! I don't think Stephen will want to leave your place after our visit. I look forward to the day when we can take him to California for his first Disneyland adventure. I think we'll wait till McKinley is old enough to enjoy it too. We shall see what the future holds. It sure would be fun to get the whole family together and make it a great trip.
I'm so proud of Sammi for fasting! Wow! She will be well prepared for her baptism. What a joyful, tearful day that will be for you and Charles. I find the greatest joys come from gospel blessings, such as watching your husband bless your baby, baptize your 8 yr old baby, send them on missions, be together in the temple when they are sealed. What joy we have to look forward to. It's worth all the work and training now. If they are prepared, they shall not fear.
Daniel looks adorable as a future missionary. We had the missionaries over for dinner last night and I was reminded of how young they are, but how strong they are in Spirit. And, I'm reminded that our parents are doing the same wonderful work that these young men are in saving souls. Thanks Mom and Dad for preparing a way for you family. We love you. Talofa lava! : )
I will update my blog today, so check it out later.
love
Kary
Becky,
ReplyDeleteI am the YW Secretary, but I consider ALL the girls "mine". :-)
Kary,
I hope one day Disneyland with your family can come true! I have not been to D-Land with you since I was a tiny little girl and you were a teenager! (I will have to find that picture.) I am sure you would love to see your kids (especially Ray)go WA-HOOOO!!! That is the best thing for me, seeing the look on Charles face, and watching him embrace his inner-child. :-) Stephen would LOVE it, cause guess who is there? Winnie the. . . . . POOOOOHHH!!He and his friends all walk around the park. They even have a Winnie the Pooh ride, can you imagine his excitement?? One day Kary, one day . . . . .
Wait, Jennifer Newman's mom? Wow, what a small world! I love the little missionary picture!!
ReplyDeleteThat's great that she wants to start fasting! It's even hard for me, an adult, to not complain about being hungry-hahaha!
Disneyland in the livingroom, seeing Sis. Newman and your little girl growing up and choosing correct principles! What an awesome time for you!!
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Kary that the greatest joys come from Gospel blessings! Some of my most precious treasures are of watching my children walk in the light.
You must be so proud of Sammie!! She is sure growing up!!
I have never been to Disneyland and you make it sound so awesome! We are just going to have to take the grandchildren and go some day!!
When are Kary and Stephen coming to visit you? I would love to drop down and see her if it wouldn't be intruding!
Lots of love!
Cheryl
