Wednesday I had my first primary activity day. (Did I mention that is my new calling?) I went from serving the young women, to serving the younger-young women. :-) It is actually a super calling. I was a little hesitant at first. (The time for activity days are right after school -- 3:30, my LEAST favorite time of the day!) But after meeting with the cute girls and having them in my home -- I think I am going to love the calling, and the girls!
Activity Day Girls
Katie, Maddy, Isabelle, Nikki, Hannah, Laura
Later on that night, there was a knock on my door and I found this lovely sight . . .
MORE GIRLS!!

The young women came to sing to me, and bring me ice-cream! (Can't beat that combo!) It made my day! Oh, and they brought me notes, too -- which are a real treasure. I will keep them, always. I sure love those girls! Sometimes I swing by the young women room, just to take in their energy and beauty -- hoping it might rub off!
Girls. What beautiful girls. I love my girls -- ALL of them!
What are little girls made of?
Sugar and spice,
And everything nice,
That's what little girls are made of.

P.S. I am totally open to ideas for activity days . . . any help is always appreciated!
I LOVED that calling when I had it. And I was hesitant too, but I soon learned that I had it even better then the YW leaders did, cause I got 'em first. We did simular activities to those in mutual. We decorated cakes, heart attacked ward members, went to the zoo, ice skating, played tennis on a warm summer day. It was awesome! Sugardoodle has really great ideas as well.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE you Mari! It was SO awesome to have you as my leader in YW. Lori and you were more like best friends to us Laurels! :) those young young girls are SO LUCKY to have you! this is probably the one and only time i will be wishing i was their age, so you could be my leader! hahah
ReplyDeleteHoly cow. I can't believe how many of the faces in those pictures I don't recognize. I've been away too long. Miss all of you. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Mari,
ReplyDeleteI'm the new Activity Day leader in my ward and my sister-in-law has the same calling. I'm loving it. I'd love to hear some ideas... my most recent one was preparing for a mother daughter luncheon in May. (Two of our girls don't have dad's in the picture.) We started out by talking about good nutrition. I got the food pyramid from the govnernment website. They wrote down what they ate the day before to see if it was balanced. Then we took what we learned about eating a balanced meal and planned a nutritious menu for the luncheon. Then, I had two place settings, divided the girls up in two teams and had them set the table properly... which they couldn't do... so they learned how. Then they made invitations for the luncheon to give to their moms. Can't wait until next month. Because our girls are scattered and 1/2 are single parented, the parents wanted the activities to be held once per month... This is a lot more fun than RS President and almost as fun as activities committee chairman (a calling that no longer exists!)
