My New Calling

I spoke with the Bishop tonight and he asked if I would be the Young Women's Secretary. I said yes! ;-) I am really excited about it. I do love working with the youth, it has been awhile. Along with the calling of secretary, the Bishop asked me if I would be willing to be the Young Women Camp Coordinator for girls camp in the Summer. He told me to think about it, but my name kept coming up whenever it was mentioned (His wife is the YW President). I think maybe I should not have cut out all those snowflakes for the Christmas program (you know, bury your talents - so no one will know!!) ;-) Just kidding. Me, the Camp Coordinator?! HA! That makes me laugh! I hated girls camp! I was the girl in the tent wishing I were home, I was stubborn, and most of the time teenager-ish and grumpy. Payback time! ;-) Yikes! So, I know that many of you who read this are in YW or have been in the past - so expect lots of questions from me!! I will need TONS AND TONS of HELP!

LOTS OF LOVE!

  1. That's soooo GREAT! You're going to be super - especially because you are superwoman ya know, running 500 miles while pregnant & pushing two kids at a time. You'll just carry all the girls up the hike at girls camp :) AWESOME!

  2. I'm laughing all the way to my tent Mari. I am thrilled for you!
    YW need you so much!!!!!~
You will be a wonderful secretary. You'll keep them so organized. Thank goodness you have acquired good computer skills. You will also get to go to all the classes so you can uplift all the YW. I'm so happy for you. How many girls in your ward? This will be a great way for you to make friends in the presidency too. Callings are so great! Enjoy and learn all you can from each of the sisters you serve and each of the YW whom you set an example for.
They need your light and your music!!!
Camp Coordinator? Are you sure? Do you need a backpack, backpack? Maybe you could hook up w/ Dora and she'll help you find a map to use so you don't get lost at girls camp. Too fun!

    hugs,
    Kary

  3. I am actually a bit terrified of girls camp! Here in Idaho, there are snakes and mountain-lions! Yikes! Plus, August is usually over 100 degrees here! I better slather myself in sunscreen!

I also have to figure out what to do with my children for 4 whole days!! I am not sure I can be apart from them for that long - I have NEVER been away from them - EVER! They may just have to come along and Charles too! The funny thing is Charles had actually scheduled a week off in August for the family reunion and DIsney etc, Hmmmmm . . . we will just have to see!

I am not so sure abut mud-wrestling, but I was thinking movies on a projector, kick-boxing classes, lots of volleyball, and lots of treats! The manual said camp was suppose to be FUN!! Well, FUN is what I will create (of course we will fulfill all of our duties too) Yee-Ha!! ;-)

I guess they have an actual camping facility here too, flushing toilets, etc. Thank goodness! There is nothing worse then girls on you-know-what out in the boondocks! Icky! Hooray for cleanliness!

I do get to choose if I want to do the camp thing (thank goodness). I just have to see what our August is looking like. I am starting to plan for it! Oh boy! Or should I say, " Oh girls!"

  4. Oh my gosh, are you gonna do it?? That would be the biggest nightmare of a calling for me. I only went to camp twice, and I just don't relate to teenagers very well! It's hard to believe I ever was one!

  5. Eddiekootsakatsakammatosinarytosinosissammykammiwakky Brown!

That's my favorite camp song! You can do it!! Sing with me!!

I am so excited for you to serve in Young Women! You will find your testimony growing with each lesson and activity! There is such a power in the youth organizations and you will be such a light for them!!

Let it shine, let it shine, LET IT SHINE!!

    Lots of love!!

  6. Wow, how fun!! I worked with the Young Women so briefly in our first ward down here. They of course wanted me to be in charge of sports!! I think I am qualified for that. I wonder what my new calling will be. I really like the relief society secretary cause you get to know everyone's names. :) Have fun and feel free to ask me any questions. I was a young woman once. ;)
