My First Run

Running.
I went for my very first run after giving birth 6 weeks ago. (Can you believe it has been that long already?) Running felt . . . interesting. Of course, I would not call what I do "running". Not hardly. More like barely lifting my knees. (Think of a running hippo.) But I am moving, and that is what counts, right? My first day I went a little too far. I am used to going out for pretty long distances. I went 6 miles. (I am really bad with going farther than planned.) I did not run the whole way, I walked mostly. It just felt so good to be out and to move my jiggly body.

Now I have the kids with me for the summer. ALL OF THEM. They are my running buddies. The kids lace up their shoes, I put on my super-duper sports bra, I feed Henry one last time before setting out, and then we load Henry in the stroller (I bring the double in case William gets tired), and we set out on our journey. I have reduced our mileage to 4 miles per day (for now). When I get faster, the kids will get to ride their bikes along side me, I am too slow right now.

The kids do amazing. They can run way longer and faster than me! Today I even had Sammi push the stroller so I could move both arms -- I LOVE having older kids!
It has been good for them, too. I have seen them getting stronger after just 3 days.

My journey has begun.

Wish me luck in reclaiming my health. I have a long road ahead (a TON of hard work) . . . but I do love a good challenge. :-)

The hardest part is putting on the running shoes . . . then it is a piece of cake. (Ha!)

Just keep running, just keep running, just keep running . . .

Taking a breather (waiting for me to catch-up!)
I love the view on my trail, right outside my front door!

There are tons of Weeping Willows -- my favorite!
It is a beautiful world out there, I love to soak it in
 Here's to Health!
(And happiness!)

Goodbye Hippo-ness!
:-)

  2. Good for you Mari, I can't wait to get out and start really walking again. Thankfully Blake keeps me moving pretty good so hopefully it won't take that long to get back into shape. Love you Beth

  3. Way to go! I am a friend of Kary's and I came across your post and loved it, just thought I would let you know that you got me motivated to run again! I thought if you can do it with four I had no excuse with three. I used to go all the time but it gets more complicated the more kids you have:) Thanks for your motivation! I am running again, and it feels great:)Keep it up Mari!
