So, I thought I was losing my strength - I was wrong! Last night I had the opportunity to pick up a washer and dryer. We have been looking for a washer and dryer and the Relief society President sent us to her brother who had one he would sell us for $200.00. Well, he brought it over, even installed it, and guaranteed it would work. He even gave us a 30 day warranty. Anyhow, we turned on the washer (after he left) to wash our first load (we have not washed clothes since we got here). Actually, I did wash our you-know-whats by hand and hung them out to dry in our fully fenced backyard : ). We left it alone for a bit and then I walked by the closet they are in and I heard in my mind, "take a look". I did not want to, cause I knew what I would find. Sure enough, water, everywhere. So, anyhow, it was too late to call him back last night. We had to get them out into our garage so we could clean it all up. So, Charles (assuming I was strong enough) said we had to do it. They were an old set - the heavy kind. Anyhow, I made a preparatory growling sound (like from my martial arts days), and first we heaved the dryer out and then the even heavier washer to the garage. How fun was that! I have not lost my strength though, that made me happy. Sometimes, I just forget it is in there. Anyhow, we left a message for the really nice man who brought over the set. We feel really bad because he was SO nice and helpful. But, we also need a working washer and dryer set, not a broken one. So we will see how it all turns out. Life is a series of problem-solving opportunities, the key is learning to laugh about it. With Charles as my partner, comedy is not hard to find! He seems to be growing funnier with age. : ) I imagine as a wrinkly old man he will be really good for a laugh!

ReplyDeleteWe're alive and well! Finally, after a week, we are hooked up on line again. We'll post pics soon of the new home after we take them: ) we've been so busy unpacking and getting things done, that we haven't taken any pictures yet. Ray starts his new job at Colony High tomorrow, so extra prayers for him will be appreciated. Thanks! We are so happy here. The ward is wonderful. I've already met my VT's and the RS pres and her secretary came over to visit and interview me today. The Bishop shook my hand on Sunday and the orange rolls last Sunday from a sweet family was certainly "icing on the cake. " : ) They have been praying for people to join their ward since the valley population of LDS people is growing so much. The Wasilla ward has been split recently two times. We know we are suppose to be in this ward. I found out today who my VT comp is and she's the cool gal that has two young children and brought the yummy orange rolls, what are the odds of that? I think we are already connected.
Mari, I'm proud of you for hauling that washer and dryer out! I've been thinking of you a lot lately as I've been helping Ray move furniture around. Beth and I moved a bookcase the other day while Ray was gone and we had some good laughs trying to maneuver it.
I understand about the 'growling' preparation required before taking on a task that requires great strength. Tonight, Ray, Stephen, Sage and I went out to cut firewood and haul logs...we're preparing for winter already. It's very fun to work as a family. Anyway, you must know that Ray is now turning into a Scott Ekstrom (HI Cheryl!..I will reply back to your email soon now that I'm 'connected.') Yes, Ray bought a chainsaw!!!!! Yee haw and watch out Wasilla. Redneck Ray is here to stay! So, he did the sawing while I did a lot of the hauling. Stephen was safely snuggled in his stroller w/ books, toys, etc. to entertain and he watched us intently to learn what one of his future jobs would be. He kept smiling and I kept reminding him that he would get to help us soon. I also counted logs with him as I would carry them to the truck. So, my growling for strength certainly didn't touch you hauling a washer and dryer out, but everytime I bent over to determine how many logs I would haul at a time, I'd growl : "think of how wonderful winter will be with all this wood to burn." Heave ho, here we go!
well, I better over and out for now. You can see I need to catch up w/ everyone.
I love you all.
Love,
The Valley Girl
Yo Kary,
ReplyDeleteSorry I edited your comments. I try to keep personal information off of the site for our protection. I would send out a mass e-mail like ma and pa do with your info on it.
Anyhow, I am glad you are settling in. I would have liked to talk to you the other night for longer, it was just bad timing. It was right after I got off the phone with you that I had to heave the washer and dryer.
The nice man came and gave us our money back and hauled the hud away. He was so nice, good Idaho folk. We are considering actually purchasing a new one from Costco or something with a warranty. You just never know what you are gonna get when you buy used appliances. I am all about used furniture etc, but something that needs to function properly, that is different. We shall see. Meanwhile, I am running out of clothes to wear! I need to wash some jeans today by hand and hang them to dry. Tomorrow is our ward party so I need something clean!
Good luck on all your new endeavors. I am glad the ward has been accepting of you. That always helps a move go smoothly. : )
Please send pictures - they do not have to be perfect, just anything of your new home would be great.
Lots of love, Me
