Laundry

Hate is a very strong word.
I do not like to use the word hate often, or at all.
So, let me just say . . . I strongly dislike doing the laundry!
Most household chores do not bother me. But when it comes to the laundry . . . it can seem overwhelming! Piles and piles. Dirty piles, clean piles, and in-between piles. I think it seems extreme to me because there is no where to hide from it -- in our 2 bedroom home. There is no door to shut and pretend that it is not there, lurking. It is constant, always in motion, never-ending . . . and it will never end. Laundry is a part of my life. Forever.

I just cannot figure out a good system? Once I throw the last sock in the wash . . . the laundry bin fills right back up again? I used to have a day devoted to laundry, but with 5 people in the family -- that is impossible! I have tried picking certain days to devote to laundry. I try doing a little everyday. There is just SO MUCH of it! There has to be a way. A good way . . . to keep it under control.

So, all you smart-cookies out there . . . any successful laundry solutions/ideas??

I have one . . .
Too bad I don't have a fireplace!!!! ;-) wink!

  2. Ugh, I hate it, too! I'm the worst at putting it away after it's folded, so I always have baskets of dirty and clean sitting around and sometimes I'm the only one who knows which is which. And the in-between clothes drive me crazy!

  3. Glad your blog is public again so I remember to read it!

Ours is private at the moment, but I haven't written on it for a very very long time. I'll probably make it public again if I ever decide to start writing again. I appreciated your comments about letting our light shine.

When the kids get big enough to do their own laundry, it starts to get much better. You just have to nag them to throw their clothes in the wash, move 'em along, and put them away. But it's better than doing it all yourself!

p.s. Joe and I are expecting number seven. So, I guess my laundry situation isn't going to be so great come September...

  5. I have a fireplace! Burn baby burn!!!! : )

I think that's the best solution to the laundry woes.

How about less clothes? hmmmmm.......and how dirty are they really when the kids or adults are done w/ them at the end of the day?

Make your laundry room a happy place. I'm working on that. I have a vinyl lettering sign in there that says: "whistle while you work." I totally organized it a couple months ago so things flow better as I work in there.

I've also thought about putting a candy and coin jar in there so that I can reward myself for doing laundry. Every time I do a load and fold it right out of the dryer, I earn a candy! Doesn't that sound great? I think I'll start that tomorrow. Then, if you find coins or bills coming out of the washer or dryer, save them in a jar and buy yourself something fun for all your hard work. Go Mari!!!!!

I LOVE laundry too! Can't you tell. Let us all PRESS on!!!!!

    Love you sister! Kary

  6. Yo Sista! (Kary), thanks for the ideas!

Less clothes is an option . . . but I think my kids are just dirty, a lot.

As for decorating . . . we don't really have a laundry "room" it is more like a laundry closet (with an overflowing-bin!). Not too many options for decorating -- unless I paint the furnace and the hot-water heater. ;-) wink!

Also, I like the candy/coin idea . . . but candy and money would find it's way into the wrong hands, quickly. Plus, even food and money are not enough to motivate me.

One day I will have a beautiful laundry room equipped with a maid, a bowl of grapes, and a massage-therapist. ;-) wink!

Until then, I guess I will just have to do as Holden suggests and "just do it". Darn.
