Before Charles and I were married, we would talk about how many children we wanted to have. We settled on the number 12. :-) He even made sure that there were 12 tiny diamonds in my wedding ring -- to symbolize each child. Well, with 3 already here, and only 9 more to go (that is frightening!) . . . I think I may have to decrease my number just a bit! Perhaps a half dozen? :-) I suppose we will see what the future holds for our family! Perhaps, if we win the lottery, strike oil in the backyard, or have a rich relative leave us millions as their dying wish . . . maybe I would not hesitate to just go for it! For now, 12 seems like such a tall order! I (we) have also been "trying" to "purposefully" put a few years in between children -- for the healing of the body, which I have been grateful for. :-)

Cheaper by the dozen? Well, only time will tell! There are 12 diamonds . . . might as well at least try! ;-) wink!

  1. TRUE DAT! The only way I am ever having a large family is if we somehow end up wealthy!! I have no idea how middle class (normal) families budget for a huge family!!

  2. No reason you can't have ninetuplets in your next batch.

  3. I like John's idea!! ;p)

I always wanted 6 kids. We had that when the twins were born. 6 kids with Emily the oldest at 8. Luke was a bonus child!!

It is really spendy to raise a bunch of kids. We did without a lot of things. I am beginning to see what a good thing that is. My kids might feel like they missed out when they were growing up, but they gained so much more!

Now that they are in college, we really feel it. Many of their fellow students (and friends) are being supported by their parents and my poor children are making their own way through academia. I have had twinges of guilt for not putting by a sizable amount to fund their education, but the reality is, they were clothed and fed and it took everything we could muster (with a little bit thrown in to travel to Idaho to keep family fires burning.) to do that!

You know what, though? They are doing it. They are responsibly taking care of themselves and figuring it out. They are growing and stretching and becoming wonderful adults!! I think that it all means so much more to them because they have had to sweat for it.

Luke is living the high life! (Not so much if you compare it to the kids here in this area, but yes if you compare it to his siblings.) He is such a good kid, though and we are so glad that we "accidently" had him!!

I wouldn't trade one of my kids for a fortune!!
