Cars

I do not like cars. I do like to drive them or ride in them - but they are such a bother sometimes! Luckily, right now we are able to get by pretty well not using ours. That is a good thing since the check engine light has been on for over a month. We have had our little Nissian Altima for a little over 3 years. We bought it for $2700.00. We looked through our car records the other day and tallied up our repair costs over 3 years for this car. It is now at $7000.00!! It makes me sick to think about. Anyhow, we have double paid for our car now and it is only losing value. How lovely.

The check engine light came on and we were seriously thinking of buying a new car and making payments. We are almost bursting at the seams in our little car with the three kids in the back. We considered it, we even test drove some nice cars at a decent price. We just could not do it. We could not go into debt for a car. But as we figure it, we already have since over 3 years we have paid the equivalent of a $10,000 car for our $2700 piece of junk.

We took the car into a mechanic again to a highly recommended shop (someone at Charles work recommended him). After $1200.00 worth of work we went for a drive last night and what happened? The check engine light came back on! Like I said, I do not like cars!! So now, we have to call the mechanic back and say, "What is up with that!?"

I am sure like all life's problems this too will "work out" and in years to come we will laugh about the good old days and our worthless car. For now though, it is a bit of a headache. I feel bad for Charles having to deal with this now too. Lame.

Besides that, things are good, really good.

I am grateful for my feet that can take me where I need to go. I am grateful for a stroller to carry the children. I am grateful that I am strong enough to brave whatever elements and walk to and from school and church. I am just really grateful. :-)

Stuff happens, the trick is to not let it get you down. . . :-)

"Life is a highway, I wanna drive it all night long. . . " Don't you need a car for that?

  1. I hate cars, too! My car is so unreliable right now. I never know if it's going to start or not!! Most days I don't have to drive anywhere, but this morning, I had a doctor's appointment, so I was praying it would start--and it did! I just need to bite the bullet and get it fixed. (We think it's the starter.) But every time it does start, I feel like I can put it off a little longer!

  2. You go Mari! Move those feet and push on! Bummer about your car! I think of you all the time when I am pushing my double jogger every day now. I even push two kids in it because one of my friends needs a ride to the trail we've been walking on and both strollers won't fit in the car, so we put her child in w/ Stephen. At first, Stephen was like.."who are you and what are you doing invading my territory?" : ) But, after a few minutes, all was well. Definitely a good upper body workout pushing two...whew! The trail is only a 5 minute drive away. It's paved and in the trees so we are protected from the wind and Sage can run free. It's nice to get out every day and see the beauty of the earth! Keep being grateful Mari...that is a great key to happiness. It's Pres. Hinckley's #1 "BE's", so you know it's good!

    love you.

  3. I guess I have to be the stinker here. I love driving!! I don't think I love cars. They intimidate me, but that is what my Scotty is for. I love getting on the highway and going somewhere. I think that is one of the things that I missed living in AK all that time.

I just took a trip down to Idaho. 8 hours each way and about 1200 miles for the trip! It was awesome!! Everyone couldn't believe I didn't it alone. Kary, it was my joyful moment for last week!!

Mari, I am sorry about your car trouble! Car problems are the pits!! Do you need Scott to come down and take a peek??
