Swearing in . . .

I was able to go and see Charles be sworn in today. I was so glad. We finally (today) found someone who could watch the kids. We decided to just take William with us. I thought I would be the only one there with children. I was wrong. Tons of people brought their kids (though we were discouraged from it). It was pretty funny.

I was entertained watching these new wanna-be lawyers. The room reeked of ego. It was really quite funny. It was as if you could feel the student loan debt pressing down on the room. :)

William did well, except I needed to feed him and there was no where to go. So, I went to the bathroom and fed him standing up in the stall. I laughed at myself the whole time. Then while I was in the hall a distressed looking young mother came out with a little baby and asked if there was anywhere to go to feed her baby. I told her standing up in the bathroom - that was it. She hesitated, then I saw her later and she said "I did it! I had to do it!" Next time, when I am in charge, there will be accomadations for mothers and children. : )

I was very proud of Charles. It was way better than graduation because it means he has passed the Bar - hooray!

Now we can officially move on with life!! Yahoo!

Sorry the picture quality is lame. It was bad lighting and I was way far away!

  1. This is amazing! I am so very proud of you, Charles!! (In a really good, righteous way, of course!!) What an accomplishment for the entire family! Kudos for keeping going, I know it was hard. Go forth and conquer!!

    LOTS of love!!

  2. I forgot to mention that William learned how to "blow raspberries" while we there. It was SO funny, cause he was pretty loud and excited about it. I did have to take him out a couple of times. : ) I loved it though. He was blowing raspberries in front of the Supreme Court judges - LOVED it!!

Another thing that was interesting while I was there. . . I felt very important. It is hard to explain. As I was standing there amongst people (who I am certain thought themselves very important) I felt so loved and important to Heavenly Father. I was standing there catching spit-up on my shoes and I knew my job, my role as a mother is the most important one in society. I felt the spirit really powerfully and I was able to feel the pure love of God smile down upon me. As if to say, " you go Mother Mari! YOU are awesome!" It was a very special moment for me. : ) I love being a mom!

  3. Mari,
You are awesome! 'Mother Mari' sounds like a wonderful title. I'm so grateful you were able to be there for your man. I wish we could have all been there as a family to see him be sworn in. How cool! I remember a few years ago when he was questioning whether to stick w/ law school or not. I was out hanging in your hammock and he was filling you and I in on his concerns. You got him there Mari. Our men need encouraging wives. They need praise. They need good food (ie. homemade cinnamon rolls, they need a listening ear and most of all lots of love.) I'm so glad you gave all of that to Charles. You should have been sworn in too. : ) You definitely get a "mother of the universe" award from me. ; )

Hi Cheryl! sure love you. Did you create a joyful moment today? You go sunshine sister!

I had a wonderful 2 hour walk today w/ a sister in the ward who has a little boy that is 21 months old. He is adorable and very sweet to Stephen. We are committed to be walking buddies now and it is great. She is so level headed, wise, spiritual and musical. She knows a lot about health and I'm excited to get recipes from her. I've just been reaching out to people and asking them if they want to do things...guess what? they do. Sometimes, you just need to initiate the interaction. Remember, women really need their 'gal pals.' It's so nice to have someone to talk to w/ common interest and who loves being a full time Mom when she could have chosen a career in public health since she got a master's degree in it. Her husband is a teacher also, so we understand the sacrifices that come w/ choosing a moderate income job. But, it is worth it. All is well in the valley!

    hugs to you all,
    Kary

Time to go cut more firewood! You gotta love it!
I'll send photos soon of our huge wood pile.

  4. Again, we repeat:
Way to go, Charles and Mari,

When we get home, we'll have to take you out to celebrate (at some place other than Chuck-a-rama); maybe it'll have to be Disneyland.

We wish we could have been there, but hope that you'll forgive us.

It's a great achievement, but probably just the beginning.

    Love,

    Mom and Dad
